Pocket Park
Biddulph Town Council was awarded funds from the Ministry of Communities and Local Government to develop a ‘Pocket Park’ – to transform a neglected area.
The area between Craigside and Dorset Drive was chosen, as this area routinely flooded and despite the efforts of residents, who created drainage channels, there were times in the year when the footpath was impassable.
The paths and drainage have been improved and a community orchard and wetland plants (willows, bulrushes and other perennials) planted.
Station Road Community Garden
When Sainsbury’s was developed, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council was given Section 106 monies, to be used to develop a community area/facility. Money was received for the garden area on Station Road, which could only be spent in this area.
Biddulph Town Council worked with a local architect to develop a community garden with seating and planted areas, fountains and a monument to commemorate those that lost their lives during the years when mining was an important part of our town’s history.
Planning permission was given in 2018 and the building work on phase one completed in 2019-20.
The next stage of the project will include the remaining seating circles and the installation of a mining memorial.

Greenway Bank Country Park & Knypersley Pool, Knypersley, ST8 7QX
Originally part of the landscaped grounds of Knypersley Hall estate. In 1778 the site was owned by Hugh Henshall, the brother-in-law of James Brindley (the notable engineer of the 18th century).
Hugh Henshall created two lakes – the upper Serpentine in 1781, fed by the Trent and the larger, Knypersley Pool, created in 1828 to feed the Cauldon Canal.
Robert Bateman acquired Greenway in the 1840’s before he acquired Biddulph Grange.
Now owned and managed by Staffordshire County Council, who are developing a route guide and map, interpretation panels and audio units relating to the heritage sites along the woodland walks around the Serpentine Lake and Knypersley Pool.
It has a children’s play area and free car parking on two car parks – Knypersley Pool car park and Greenway Bank car park (both open from 9am to dusk).
